EC New York is based on Broadway, Manhattan. Manhattan is one of the five Boroughs that make up New York City (the other boroughs are The Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island). Manhattan has a reported population of over 1,600,000 people. New York City grew in importance as a trading port while under British rule and later, in the 19th century, the city was transformed by immigration and development.
The diverse population includes some of America's wealthiest inhabitants, as well as hundreds of thousands of immigrants. New York's population has been diverse since the city's founding by the Dutch. Successive waves of immigration make New York a giant social experiment in cross-cultural harmony - more of a 'salad bowl' than a 'melting pot'.
Although New Yorkers are reliant on public transport to get around, the roads are a defining feature of the city. The city's street grid plan influenced the city's physical development. The careful ordering of the straight streets makes it difficult to get lost.
The area has many famous landmarks, tourist attractions, museums, and universities. So famous are some of the areas of New York that they are used to describe the industries that are located there i.e. Broadway = threatre; Wall Street = finance; Madison Avenue = advertising. You could spend a lifetime in this city and still not see it all!
